Builded in 1505, the architectural elegance of «La Grande Maison» evolved through the centuries becoming successively a small convent, the town house of finance and customs house of the port of Fécamp.
At that time, from one of the house's turret, the customs officers kept watch over the sailing boats entering and leaving the harbour.
But the current charm of the house largely results from the improvements made by one of its former owners at the beginning of the twentieth century, a famous local shipowner of that period.
After having purchased a gorgeous yacht to an English Lord to turn it into a fishing boat (going to Newfoundland), he then chose to decorate his house with various ornamental elements coming from that boat.
This choice gave the house all the rare charm it has nowadays.
